You may have an engraving job with multiple plates and want to limit the amount of z travel to minimize the engraving time. However, there may also be something taller that you need to clear while moving around a plate, or from one plate to another.
In the default configuration, the distance that the spindle moves upward between characters (known as the Z-stroke amount) is a constant for the entire job. However, for large jobs with many cutter-ups, this can add significant time to the overall runtime of a job.
To combat this, an operator may select to use Z-stroke settings per layout object. This will allow him to specify the clearance requirement, and maintain the most efficient stroke settings throughout the remainder of the job.
See the attached document for detailed instructions.
